I’m honored to share that my book, Connected Care: A Practical Guide to Technology for Serious Mental Illness, has been accepted into the Library of Congress collection.
For any author, this is a meaningful milestone. For an independently published author, it feels especially significant—not simply because the book has found another home, but because it has been selected for preservation within one of the world’s most important research libraries.
More Than a Deposit
The Library of Congress receives a tremendous volume of published material, but it does not retain every item submitted. The Library selects materials that support its collections and research mission; its public guidance indicates that only about 45 to 50 percent of received deposit items are chosen for its collections. That makes acceptance more than an administrative step. It means Connected Care was selected as a work worth preserving and making discoverable within a national collection devoted to documenting human knowledge, culture, and creativity.
Why This Matters
Connected Care was written to make technology feel more understandable and usable for people affected by serious mental illness—the individuals living with these conditions, their families, caregivers, and the professionals who support them.
Technology can sometimes feel overwhelming, impersonal, or out of reach, particularly when mental-health needs are already complex. My goal was to offer practical information that helps readers explore tools for communication, organization, health management, safety, connection, and everyday independence.
Its acceptance into the Library of Congress affirms the importance of this conversation: access to technology is not just a convenience. It can be part of support, stability, autonomy, and inclusion.
A Place in the Record
The Library of Congress describes its collection as the world’s most comprehensive record of human creativity and knowledge. To know that Connected Care will be cataloged and preserved alongside works that help researchers, students, policymakers, and the public understand the world is both humbling and energizing.
Books in the Library’s collection may support future research on mental health, caregiving, disability inclusion, digital access, and the evolving role of technology in daily life. I hope this book can contribute, in some small way, to a future in which people with serious mental illness have more tools, more choices, and more opportunities to remain connected to the people and communities that matter to them.
Thank You
This recognition belongs in part to everyone who believes that practical information can make a real difference: advocates, caregivers, mental-health professionals, technology developers, and, most importantly, people with lived experience.
Thank you to everyone who has supported Connected Care and the larger work of making mental-health resources more accessible, compassionate, and useful.
